Lighten and Brighten

Hope you all are enjoying the day.  It's absolutely gorgeous here ... I have *no* business being indoors, let alone playing on the computer!

So, I'm taking you into our sitting room today.  Some of you may remember that it used to look like this:

It was a yummy metallic chocolate brown (Ralph Lauren Metallic paint in Lush Brown), which I absolutely loved.  However, because the furniture in there is dark, the room began to close in on me.

After:  I painted the walls BM Manchester Tan, switched out the furniture, the rug and window treatments.

The chairs and ottoman are from the great room (which also has a new look). I've ordered natural colored slipcovers for the chairs ... hope they work.  And, a smaller jute rug replaced the larger, darker one we had.  I like having more of the wood floor exposed:

I found this silver tray at a local *ha-uge* antique store called B&B:

I've moved things around in the bookcase and have added a few Fall touches there, as well.  Love the vintage Tequila bottle (also found at B&B):

A baby white pumpkin is perched on a nest of shredded paper which all sit on top of cute bowl I just bought at a friend's awesome gift shop called Crazee Birds:

Fun textured pitchers (and, yes ... a-NOTHER bird plate).  I also lightened some of my books up by wrapping them in painter's paper (from Lowes):

This fancy mirror once *lived* in the dining room, but has since moved here:

And, a fun find from Home Goods:

We're really enjoying the new look in our sitting room, especially in the afternoons when the sun pours in through the windows.

Well, I hope you have a wonderful day!  I'm off to finish up the dining room:

  5. Oh my goodness--So your paint color really looks beautiful -It looks different in the different lighting -I bet you just walk around and admire the new look :-) I would. What labels did you use on your books? and the tray on your wall -what does the tag with the picture say and did you just wrap the jute around the tray --You have so many great ideas and everything looks lovely.

  6. Kathy ... I hope you check back in because your blog wouldn't let me leave a comment. THANK YOU for your sweet note above (and about my bead garland)! Let's see ... I picked up the labels (for my books) from Michael's (in the scrapbook dept). The tag on the tray in the dining room says "Legacy" ... and, yes, that is just plain old twine wrapped around the tray (I *stole* that idea from Pottery Barn)! Thanks again, Becca

  7. Beautiful changes Becca! I love the more casual styled arm chairs in here. What a great idea about making your own book covers to brighten up or change out a cover that is not so appealing. I love your new color but then I liked the old one too. Your furniture arrangement is very appealing too! Great job!

It really is nice having a more casual look and it makes it seem like a room you would really want to snuggle into with a good book. I'm sure that happens A LOT with all of your free time! :-) Thanks for showing us these great changes!

  23. Hi Becca, so glad you stopped by my blog so I could find you. Love what you've done to your sitting room. I loved the brown paint too but agree, it's much for light and open now. Love the chairs and the paisley on the ottoman. It looks so much more inviting and relaxing now. I really like the "legacy" pic on your plate at the end of the post too. That's gives me some ideas to play with.
