Surprise Gift!

Greetings, friends!

I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas with your family and friends and are able to take a deep breath and relax a bit now that it's all over!

As for my gang, we're still cleaning up bits of wrapping paper here and there, as well as starting the daunting task of Christmas "take down." (ugh)

But, before I forge ahead, I simply had to give a "shout out" to my sweet husband for surprising me with this beauty for Christmas:

I had *noooo* idea that he was going to do that and can't wait to get to know it better (although, admittedly, I'm a bit intimidated by its fancy lenses and *grown up* features)!  If you're a Nikon D3100 owner and have any tips and tricks you'd like to share, I'm all ears!

Until then, you can find me in an OCD panic, as I deal with boxes, glitter and *mess* everywhere!

Happy New Year!

Becca

  2. So sweet! I own the Nikon D3100 and absolutely love it. My suggestions are to first and foremost read the user manual and then take a class. You will be amazed at the capabilities of this camera and the beautiful photos you will take.

  6. the one good thing about not putting out a lot (like I did this year) is hopefully it won't take too long to get it all put up! i was going to start today but i'm coming down with a cold and it was too cold and windy outside to get anything done. we ended up not going to the beach due to the weather predictions and me getting sick...oh well i'd rather go to the beach in warm weather.

what a great surprise your hubby gave you...i know you'll be posting lots of fabulous pics of your beautiful home soon.

    happy new year!

  12. Woohoo! That's wonderful, Becca! I've had that exact camera for a little over a year and love it. Sadly though, I haven't taken it out of auto yet, except to turn off the flash. The only tip that I have for you is what everyone has told me - purchase and take the Shoot Fly Shoot online course from The Lettered Cottage. I just recently bought it, but haven't taken it yet. :)

  13. I got this camera last year. It is wonderful but I have not really had the time to figure it all out. I've tried learning a few things but when I don't use it I don't retain it. Which is why the Mr. also bought me a guide book for the Nikon D3100. The book recently helped me a lot to adjust some settings I had previously set that were no longer working for me. I think bit by bit it is slowing coming together. Taking an online course sounds like a good idea too. Enjoy your new camera, you will love it!

  14. What a sweet husband! I own the same camera, and the only recommendation I have is to make your self use it in manual mode, it's the only way you will ever learn it, oh yeah, keep the manual near by as well. I have found great books online about this camera, with a lot of tips on how to use it. Good luck, you will love it!

  16. Yay! He did good didn't he? You will have so much fun with it.

Good luck with the "take down". I did that yesterday, however, I didn't have near as much to deal with. It's amazing how much "less" claustrophobic I feel with it all packed away. :)

    Happy New Year!

  22. I have the same camera, and I'm still learning! Really the best advice is to just start using it. You will get the hang of it and learn as you go. It's a great gift! Mine was from my sweetie a couple of years ago.

Definitely yes to digging through, organizing, and trying to get the Christmas stuff cleared up, packed up and stowed away!

    Happy New Year!

  24. Hi Becca, my name is Bonnie..I am new to your blog. I am enjoying your sense of style and decorating! Those Christmas trees are fantastic!! I was wondering how you decorate your home for January. It's one of those months...in between holidays. I am going for a white, snowy theme..snowflakes, paper and crocheted garland, white candles, white tipped pine cones...things like that. I am curious to see how you will decorate for January...I am needing some good ideas!! Thanks.

  25. You will LOVE your new Nikon! I have the D5000 and the D90 and adore both! Just start in auto, then move onto auto without flash (the auto that has the little lightening bolt through it) then move onto "A" in the settings and you can play with White balance and ISO SOOOO much fun! Can't wait to see your new pics! :)
