Yes, after overdosing on chalk paint around my home, my other fave (BM White Dove) was longing to be used again. So, I finally did something that I've wanted to do for a LONG, long time!
Our kitchen sits in the middle of our home, not getting direct sunlight. And, while I love our maple cabinets, it just seemed a bit dull in there. Weeel, not anymore!
I lightly sanded (220 grit), primed with Zinsser BIN and applied two coats of White Dove (Satin Impervo).
I'm leaving the base cabs in their original state, so that we still have the warmth of the maple.
And, because you all know by now that I love odd numbers, I'm pleased that I now have three different cabinet colors going on in the kitchen ... the white uppers, maple lowers and Annie Sloan chateaux grey island!
If you've ever thought about painting your cabs (whether they're in great condition or in need of a facelift), go for it! I know it can be considered a daunting project, but you'll love the results!
One more time ... BEFORE:
Annnnd, AFTER:
And, admittedly, while I love how the white cabinets now tie in with the molding, I am *thinking* about lightly distressing (just along the lines of the panels) and possibly glazing them just a smidge ... giving them more of a custom look.
We'll see ...
We'll see ...

I really admire anyone who paints their own cabinets because I don't think I'd have the patience. I have very few cabinets in my kitchen, they are old and in fair condition, but we had them painted a year or so ago and for now they are okay but I'm hoping to replace them one of these days.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week sista!
Judy

My kitchen is much like yours in design and placement within our house. All my cabinets are white, but are looking worn and in need of some updating. I hope you distress & wax yours, as that's what I'm thinking about doing. Purely selfish motives for me! LOL
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous kitchen.
ReplyDeleteOh, oh, oh, oh!!!! I love it!!!! Is your arm tired or what?!? The hubs actually said I could paint ours white, but it looks daunting to me!!! You are amazing!!!! Our kitchen is very dark to and we have the dark cherry cabinets. What a difference it makes!!!! Ohhhh my! You go girl!!!

Gorgeous!!!! Love your cupboards Becca! White cupboards are so charming and love how yours turned out!! Thanks for sharing at Feathered Nest Friday this week!
ReplyDeleteHoly Moly... how did I ever miss this post??? Seriously Becca, your hands must be cramped up from holding that gosh darn paint brush for what seems like months now. LOL. When you get an addiction you really do take it to a whole new level, but I love it. Love your passion and your sense of style!! I think adding a little distress or glazing would really look wonderful too. Thank you for always inspiring.
ReplyDeleteEmelia ... thank you SO much for your sweet and witty note! You are MUCH too kind, and I sincerely appreciate it. Have a fabulous day!
ReplyDeleteCiao
ReplyDeletecomplimenti!!
Kiss Kiss
It looks half done. The painted cabs look up to date but the maple looks left behind. I think you should paint the bottoms too, even if in a different colour to the top. (She says looking at her own unpainted timber cabinets. Maybe mine are needing a coat of paint too)
