Happy Memorial Day weekend, friends !!
Last time, I shared with you all that my sweet parents asked me to redecorate a few of their spaces in their beautiful home. *What* were they thinking? LOL
They gave me "cart blanche," which scared me a bit because I didn't want to disappoint them, but, away I went and prayed the entire time.
Here is their sunroom before (this was the only picture I could find from Christmas a few years ago) beautifully dressed in reds/golds/greens.
And, here it is now ... hope you like it !! My main goal was to make this an inviting and serene space for my parents. And, rather than sticking with the "safe" arrangment of a loveseat/sofa and two chairs, I opted for this four chair configuration.
I chose BM Wythe Blue for the walls. And, I selected an inexpensive liner fabric to make the window panels (Allen + Roth bronze rods from Lowe's). I picked out four SUPER comfy chairs are from Capri furniture ... love that they swivel, too! Mom found the pretty swing arm lamp ... perfect for my Dad's reading spot. The coastal pillows are from Pottery Barn.
I thought the "Beach House" sign would be a fun addition, too. I love the rug Mom found at Belk.
Is this not the cutest rope table (from Ballard's). The awesome lamp comes from none other than Pottery Barn!
I love the texture of the lamp shade and that you can add whatever you want to the inside of the lamp ... white sand and pretty seashells were the obvious choices:
Even though I think my parents were a bit worried when they saw this huge vintage sailboat come in and take over a bit of their view, I think that they've warmed up to it now. I just love the dramatic focal point it makes!
The table that the boat is perched on *used* to look like this:
While I liked it, I just couldn't resist adding a coat of Annie Sloane's Old White chalk paint and distressing it a bit (yes, folks, I painted a brand new piece of furniture ... oops):
I chose this ottoman from Pottery Barn ... the base of it matches the textured lamp shade, too!
An oversized blue tray serves as a great place for Coastal Living magazines:
And, pretty clock bounces off of the wall color (NOT that anybody truly cares what time it is when you're at the beach though, right?)
I'm still tweaking ... the last thing we'll be adding are bamboo roman shades to the windows ... can't wait to see those as the crowning touch!
My parents are thrilled with the results (at least, that's what they've told me ... lol). I truly hope they're enjoying their new space!
I'll be sharing changes to their great room soon!
I'm joining these fun parties ... come on over and play with us!

Becca!!! This looks absolutely incredible! You completely changed this room and breathed new life into it. I LOVE the giant sailboat and you were spot on with making it a focal point! Your parents are blessed to have such a loving daughter with tons of talent and creativity. :-)

ReplyDeleteOh, Becca, you did a fabulous job. First rate all the way, girl. I love it and am sure they really do love it, too. Look at that view. My oh my. I love the vintage sailboat and yes, that piece looks better with Annie's old white. Great rug you mom found. I didn't know Belk had rugs. Oh, my Belk is very close to me, too. May have to go look. I give you ten stars.

Oh and sailboat is to die for!
Becca- It looks great! You did an awesome job pulling it all together. I LOVE the big sailboat and really do think that sets the tone for the whole room. Great rug and I don't mind a bit that you painted the new piece of furniture. It blends in beautifully! GREAT JOB! Is MY room there ready yet? xo Diana
ReplyDeleteBecca,
ReplyDeleteThe whole room is so perfect in every detail. The wall color is such a great choice, and really set the tone for the whole room. It looks so relaxing and inviting. I bet they never want to leave it!!
What an amazing room and I'm not one bit surprised. I just knew you could pull off whatever you had envisioned for the coastal look you desired for your mom and dad's sunroom. Now, all your dad has to do is pick up his book, sit in his chair and relax. Please come to Newfoundland, Canada and decorate for me!

You have seriously outdone yourself. You are so sweet to do this for your parents, what a beautiful gift. I love the pillows, the furniture, the curtains, the paint color, the accessories....I LOVE IT ALL!!
I have a feeling this will be showcased it a "coastal" magazine, you just wait and see, my friend!

I just love the 4 chair conversation area that you've created. Everything is perfect from the wall color down to every last detail. And you're right. The bamboo shades will be the crowning touch. You are very, very good!
ReplyDeleteYou did a beautiful job! I sure love the color of paint you used and am bookmarking a photo for future reference!
ReplyDeleteI know your parents are loving the room. It turned out great! Love the dressy beach theme. hugs ~lynne~
ReplyDeleteWow Becca, when I saw the first "after" photo it took my breath away! Girl, you did soooo good, I love the beachy vibe, very well done, not "cutsey" and it should last them a long time.
ReplyDeleteJust one question, where did you find that fabulous sailboat?
Husband brought home an oversized "spool" like your parents so I've decided to add boat rope to it and use it on the deck (hopefully I can treat the wood so it will be okay outside).
Happy Memorial Day!
Judy
GORGEOUS, Becca!!! I love everything about this fabulous room that you designed for your parents! I love that you opted for the four chair seating arrangement...what a cozy room! I would love to spend time there! Thanks for sharing your creativity and talents with us! I'm sure your parents are simply elated!!!
ReplyDeleteWarmest wishes,
Chari
Beautifully done, Becca! I love the casual elegance you've given your parents sunroom. That wall color is really pretty and I love the chairs. I'm sure they really do love it. It's a big change from what they had before, so I'm sure it took a little bit to get used to. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThis is just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable job Becca. I love everything last thing you have done. Your parents must be thrilled!
ReplyDeleteThis is just absolutely gorgeous! I love what you have done with this room and that sailboat...ahh, I think it's fabulous.
ReplyDeleteWow! I love it....every single aspect of this room is just perfect! I don't which is my favorite....but, I really like that Pottery Barn lamp with the sand and shells in it! And the Wyeth Blue? Beyond serene! Great job, Becca!
ReplyDeleteI am in LOVE!!!!!!! I think this room is absolutely what a beach house should look like. Oh my heart be still. I am so into the four chair configuration and think that is so smart! The boat is the perfect focal point. The pillows, the ottoman, the lamp, the side table... PERFECT!!!!!! Do they need another daughter? I am available for adoption! :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
ReplyDeletePerfection, Becca! I'm so glad that you chose to use four chairs instead of sofas. Painting the new chest was a wise choice - the room just wouldn't have the same airy atmosphere if you hadn't. I could easily spend hour upon hour in this lovely room. Great job!!!
ReplyDeleteOh that boat! You know I am still drooling over that piece. The size would be a concern for me too as to where to put it but I think it is in the perfect spot in this room! I know they love it. I also love the four chairs and can just see your family sitting around lazily relaxing on those with feet kicked up on the ottoman. This is so beautiful! Excellent choices!!!
ReplyDeleteThe transformation is incredible...Love the soft colors of the coast...such a comfortable area to sit and enjoy the view....
ReplyDeleteBecca,
ReplyDeleteLove it love it! You did a fantastic job and I love the sail boat and the Annie Sloan paint on the table..so beachy looking.
Becca - how could they NOT be thrilled? It's amazing! So serene. You nailed it!

ReplyDeleteOMG it doesn't even look like the same room. It is gorgeous, you have talent girl.
ReplyDeleteThnaks for linking up.

Kristin
I would love to have that room added just off my kitchen...do you think that could be arranged? HAHA! Simple beachy = perfect!
ReplyDeleteTotally gorgeous. Great job. Now the view and the decor don't compete against each other. They are perfectly melded together. I'm sure your parents are loving their new room. I know that's where you would find me hanging out most of the time. LOL
ReplyDeleteThere is only one word, Becca, AMAZING!!! You have some serious talent! And need to be doing this for a living!!! :) Their new room is just gorgeous, beautiful, stunning! I know they will enjoy it for a long time to come! You did an awesome job!

ReplyDeleteWow the room turned out amazing. It looks like something you would find in a magazine!! Great job!

Oh my, Becca, this is just beautiful! It's the perfect coastal haven. I love that you used 4 chairs rather than sofas -- so much easier to visit with friends & family. Great job!
ReplyDeleteCAS
Beautiful room Becca! We didn't use the traditional arrangement of couch and chairs in our great room - since it is just my hubby and I we used our two recliners and two comfortable chairs for company - I love the four chairs! The sailboat was the crowning touch!
ReplyDeleteHugs -
Carol
Becca, this will be one of the features at Wow this week. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAmazing. The wall color is so serene. Great Job.
ReplyDeleteThe room looks awesome, but of course I am partial to coastal design. Can you tell me where you found the bundle of driftwood under the window table? Great job!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job ~ there is really nothing that I don't love about the space. Love your decision of using 4 chairs instead of the standard choices. :) Judy
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry it took me so long to get over here, but I knew I'd be so jealous and I'd try to figure out a way to move in. Becca, it is awesome! You are so talented and I wish I were your mother, sister or best friend so you would help me :) I love every inch of it and I know the blinds will be the cherry on top! You are amazing and I know your parents love it as much as we all do!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Debbie
That room is really lovely. I am all over that 4 chair arrangement! :) And the boat - awesome touch - like like like!
ReplyDeleteI love that beach house sign and that particular shade of blue paint.
ReplyDeleteBecca, This is such a beautiful room! I love the paint color and the furniture is wonderful. I know your parents are thrilled with this gorgeous space. Thanks for joining the Open House party.
ReplyDeleteI must say, your parents will benefit a lot here as far as the sunroom is concerned. This is a great room for exercising. With a warm place that will allow them to experience nature when being outside isn't allowed, this is a place where they can enjoy doing their stuff. :)
ReplyDeleteRegards,
Angelina
That is adorable! I think the easiest way to redecorate is to change your rug. It is such a centerpiece of the room so I think changing it will change the feel of the room. I am looking to change my rug into something different like a shaggy rug to add a new look but also comfort!
ReplyDeleteDear i have seen many posts regarding this but no one prove to be best. But your blog is really very informative:

I love the room too! How do you keep from overdoing the beach theme, though? We just bought our first cottage in Maine and haven't decide where to start remodeling!cinxy
