Gold and Glass ... Who Knew?

Happy Saturday, friends.

My husband often jokes with me by saying that he's glad that my taste in men doesn't change as much as my taste in decorating styles does!  Ha!  Poor man ... the things he has to put up with being married to me ... mainly, my decorating addiction, especially how often things change around here!

The latest tweaks taking place in our great room have revealed that, apparently, out of nowhere, I'm now a big fan of gold and glass coffee tables!  Who knew?!  Annnd, that's when I decided we simply had to move our heavy, dark coffee table out and make room for a gold and glass beauty!  Alas, the search began ....

I fell in love with this one from Ethan Allen, but, for over $700, sadly, I had to pass:

This one from Uttermost is gorgeous (especially the gallery shelf below)  but, again ... with a price tag of over $500, that's still a bit too high.

I scoured Craiglist for days ... no luck!  Goodness, this was becoming a bit of a challenge ....

THAT'S when I came across this *pretty* from Wal-Mart for only $99 (free shipping, too, when you "site to store")!

But, wait ... I know you're thinking "um, Becca ... it's not gold!"  You're absolutely right!  Alas, nooooo worries ... that's where a can of *this* from Lowe's saved the day:

A few coats later, and here's a peek at what it looks like now!

Wooo Hooo ... JUST what I had hoped for!  Don't you just love it when you can get the look you want, without paying the hefty price?!

I'll be back soon to share more of the little changes in here, including our "coastal" mantel:

Have a great day ... thanks for stopping by,

  2. Very nice!! There isn't much that a can of spray paint can't fix is there?
Well done you! I have a bronze and glass one in the sun room that I move about into the family room from time to time to squelch that decorating fix.
    :-)
    Happy Weekend, Gee

  4. Your foyer is the first I've seen in "blog-land" that's like mine, meaning you have no walls. I am so envious of the ladies who can place pretty little tables and vignettes in their foyer. I love the dark door and the gold coffee table. Looks great!

  10. Soooo surprised I like this. I don't like gold and glass at all. I am so wood and traditional....but of course you can pull it off and make me like it....how do you always do that to me...LOL

  17. This post proves if you keep something long enough it will come back in style. Our coffee table is gold and glass, from my parents (maybe grandparents?) I didn't love it at first, but it was free. Now after 2 years with it, I am quite attached.

  19. only you girl, only you! you did sooo good with that table and gold paint...i have a glass topped coffee table in a bronze color that i really like but i might have to give it a little gold spray soon since that seems to be all the rage now.

just got in from a lovely weekend on the lake...got a little too much sun! i'm having an MRI in the morning for some knee trouble I've had for about 3 months now...I hate those things! Wish me luck!

  23. Becca, what a wonderful find! I still remember when the gold and glass tables were so much in fashion and then, for some unknown reason, everybody started getting rid of them! :) I have always loved them, specially their simple and clean look. I love what you did with yours. Can't wait to see the whole room. You are now in the "spray paint club". I have to tell you, for months now I have had spray paint on my fingers almost every day. LOL Enjoy your week!

  26. Love it! But, I would love it considering I pulled my gold/burnished brass and glass coffee table out of storage to put in my living room. You and I are definitely kindred spirits, right my friend? :-)
