Greetings, friends!
I hope you are enjoying the holiday week and have fun plans with family and friends to look forward to in a few days!
Here in the Southeast, we are ready to say goodbye to the DAYS of rain that we've had! I'm pretty sure that is what has caused me to mess around in our sitting room and make a few unplanned changes.
BEFORE:
AFTER: Can you spot the differences?
I decided that our bookcase needed a little bit of "oomph," so I washed it with a mixture of CeCe Caldwell's Seattle Mist and Simply White. I then added a fun, French fabric to the back of the bookcase for a bit of interest and contrast:
I love how the accent pieces pop against it:
The fabric even pulls out the gray in the shell, too:
I then added a small starburst mirror (from Ballard) to the front of the bookcase for a bit of interest:
And, when I replaced this coffee table (from Pottery Barn) in our great room (I'll share all the changes in there soon), I decided to try it out in our sitting room, but not before giving it a little facelift.
BEFORE:
AFTER: See what a couple of coats of Annie Sloane's "Pure White" can do?
Of course, you know I couldn't resist distressing it just a tad:
While I still envision 4 chairs in my little "Mom cave," I'll enjoy this look until I find just what I'm looking for (wish me luck)!
As always, thanks so much for stopping by! And, hope you have a safe and happy 4th of July!

Spotted the fabric and the coffee table switch right away. The fabric in the back is wonderful. Hmmm... was toying with the idea of doing fabric in the back of my china cabinet, and now it's a def go!
ReplyDeleteAs always , I luv your tweaking :-) YES... we are so over the days of rain already. made me redo my living room as well. Now I am eyeballing the sun room. With paint brush in hand.
Happy 4th to you and yours.
Big hugs.

Absolutely Beautiful! I'm not sure if you participate in linky parties, but I would love for you to link up at http://hickorytrailblog.blogspot.com/2013/07/efforts-and-assets-linky-party-9.html
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Angela
I love the added fabric in the back and the table looks so much better. Doesn't even look like the same table. I think you are repainting things like moi. Maybe we were separated at birth. :)
ReplyDeleteYour room is very pretty and the fabric backing in the bookcase is a great idea. It really highlights your displays. I keep your bookcase cabinet in mind when I am stalking kijiji and craigslist. I would love to find a piece that would work like that. The table looks so refreshed now.
ReplyDeleteThat looks beautiful! So much inspiration.
ReplyDeleteKristie
Looks like you and I had the same coffee table inspiration weekend!
ReplyDeleteLOL Love it, love the room, love the paper, love all the changes you made.

That fabric is really nice - I am wondering how you attached it to the back of your dresser? Thanks for great photos!
ReplyDeleteBecca- I love the changes and spotted them both right away. That is one thing about white and simplicity- even the simplest of changes makes an impact. I love what you did in there. Looking sweet for summer! xo Diana

WOW. I want to move into your sitting room. I am glad I'll only be virtually invited to your lovely home, during the showcase, because I might not ever leave if I were actually invited inside :)
ReplyDeleteLove the changes, Becca, but I doubt that you really needed rainy days to do some "tweaking!" Just sayin'! The fabric background is perfect and truly does make everything inside just pop. I really like what you did with the coffee table, too. You certainly have "the gift" my friend!
ReplyDeleteCarol
I love your room and the changes that you made. The back of that hutch is so cool! I love the great dimension it gives it. Great job!
ReplyDeleteSo absolutely Gorgeous-with-a-capital-G! That last picture especially looks like it could be straight out of the Ballard catalog! :) Love love LOVE it! (And thanks to your demo of the Pure White on the coffee table, I no longer am doubting my plans for the roadside-rescued dresser that I'm planning on making into a end-of-bed bench for our master bedroom)

ReplyDeleteI would love to know your wall color -- it's beautiful with the white accents. Gorgeous room!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty Becca and I think that gray fabric is perfection. I love the script. I've thought about doing that to my living room shelves but haven't found the exact right fabric. You certainly did! Hope you find those 4 chairs soon. Would love to see how that looks. :o)
