I've Been Bit by the Graphics Fairy ...

and now I'm hooked !!  I know many of you are familiar with the Graphics Fairy blog, but I just recently started following along.  I couldn't resist the temptation after seeing so many amazing projects that have resulted from such cool images !!

I spotted this graphic and knew it was the one:

My stools have gone from this:

to THIS!

Whaddaya think?

Here's how I did it ... First, I painted my stools Old White (chalk paint).  I then lightly distressed them and added wax to both (except for the tops).

I then printed my selected image, got my pencil out and performed the ever-so-technical pencil transfer (turn the paper over, go over the back of the paper with pencil, turn the paper back over and tape to surface where you want to transfer ... then, with a pencil, trace over the letters/image carefully.  When you're done, lift the paper and you will see a penciled image for you to then trace/color over with your paint pen or brush).  Then, I used one of my paint markers to fill them in.  After the paint was dry, I lightly sanded over the tops to "age" the images just a tad.  I finished up by adding a coat of wax to the tops.  Easy peasy!

Love them popping against the chateaux grey island.

Thank you, Graphics Fairy ... you rock!  And, I'm afraid that my love affair has just begun!

And, as an aside, thank you all so very much for your endearing and comforting comments about Mrs. Farleigh.  She truly was an amazing woman, and I know her family appreciates having read your thoughtful notes, as well ... thank you so, so much.

  1. Becca, they look awesome. I have not learned how to print out those yet. May get my daughter to do it while she is here. I can't get my printer to print them correctly.

  4. You'll be hooked now, Becca! The stools turned out great! I'm itching to try one of these transfers onto a seat base, but I'm probably going to have to wait until we move. I think my hubby would kill me if I brought in a thrift store chair at this point to transform!

  10. Those look incredible Becca!! I love how they look against the color of your island and bring some of the cream of your upper cabinets over to that side. Your kitchen is looking so incredible and you always get my mind swirling with how I can mix things up in my home! :-)

  11. Becaa, I *heart* your stools. I have the same stools in black and would love to do the same thing to them. I don't think I could make the graphics transfer look nearly as good, though! If you don't mind me asking, where are all of you getting this "chalk paint"...? I'm behind the times here, but it seems EVERYONE is using this paint.

Your kitchen looks amazing and I have always enjoyed seeing your vignettes displayed. I LOVE the kitchen island display (the corks and grapes are so cute), and your floral arrangements stands out and pops...WUV IT!! Thanks for sharing. XO ~Liz

  14. They look amazing!! I just ordered some chalk paint in 'old white' to revamp my black buffet! Love how your stools turned out. I was wonderig if I needed to add a glaze to the paint to get the old look, but if all you did was distress them, then I guess there's my answer :-)

  22. Oh, I love them! I have seen alot of posts referring to the Graphic Fairy also. Have yet to try her out. Gotta gotta do it sometime. I love the look of chalk paint. I have not seen it here in Utah. Where do you buy it? I'm thinking, on line. Couldn't help but notice a bit of turquose in the background. I painted my island and fan hood turquoise last Fall. Have absolutely loved it. Thanks for sharing instructions.

  36. LOVE, love these! I think my printer was one of the first made...seriously. :/ Just can't get it to cooperate and I adore The Graphics Fairy.

I'm so glad someone remembers how to do the 'pencil' transfer. That gives me hope rather than the technical transfers some are doing.
    You did great!
